Description

The basic points of departure in this artwork by René Tosari are portraits and the conviction that he – just like many others from his generation and thereafter – was born Alakondre. In the portraits in this painting the emphasis is therefore not on clearly recognizable ethnic identities, but simply on different faces in random colors that symbolize diversity. Because according to René Tosari, the emphasis should never be on the things that differentiate the various ethnicities from each other, but on those things that we have in common; on the fact that all of us together form one Surinamese nation.’
